Post-Fire Library Services for Semester 3
Following the recent Mackintosh Building fire, access to GSA Library and some other GSA buildings is not possible. Whilst we work to re-establish a full service, we have put in place a number of measures to ensure that you can continue to access the library materials you need for your studies.
How Can I Contact the Library
A Library Information Point will be available on Level 3 of the Haldane Building at 30 Hill Street from Monday 2 July 2018 and will be open between 09.00-13.00 and 14.00-17.00 Monday-Friday. Here, Library staff will be available to advise you of the services available to you, and to answer any questions for may have. You can also contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will respond to your enquiry as soon as possible. Any important updates from the Library will be posted to Twitter.
How Can I Access Electronic Resources?
All the library’s electronic databases, journals and e-books continue to be available through our Library website. These resources can be accessed both on- and off-campus through your GSA username and password. Login instructions are available here, but if you experience any problems accessing our resources please email LTHelp@gsa.ac.uk.
You can also stream and download a number of magazines in art, design and architecture to your mobile device using our Magazines-on-the-Go service.
If you would like help identifying which resources to use, or would like to be shown how they work, visit us at the Library Information Point in the Haldane Building where a member of staff will be able to assist you. GSA electronic resources can be accessed by anyone studying at GSA, regardless of programme of study.
Postgraduate students can also access an extensive collection of online resources via Glasgow University Library. Comprehensive information on how to do this is available on our website.
How Can I Access Print Resources?
Unfortunately the print collections of GSA Library cannot be accessed at this time, and we apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. To lessen this disturbance we have organised for you to have access to the collections of Glasgow University Library during this period.
Undergraduate students undertaking resits can access GU Library on a reference-only basis by simply presenting their GSA student card on arrival.
Postgraduate students are also entitled to borrow print books from GU Library. Comprehensive information on how to do this is available on our website. Please let us know at email@example.com if you experience any problems accessing these collections and we will work to rectify this for you.
Postgraduate students can also join the SCONUL Access scheme, which will allow you to borrow a small number of books from academic libraries across the UK. This is useful if your primary base is outside of Glasgow. See our website for details of this scheme.

How Can I Return Books I Have on Loan?
Please hold on to any books you currently have on loan. If you accrue any fines, these will be waived for you.
Students leaving Glasgow or GSA who need to return books to us can do so at the Library Information Point on the 3rd floor of the Haldane Building at 30 Hill Street. Students located at the Tontine Building can continue to return their books to the remote drop-off located in the janitors’ office.
How Can I Collect My Reserved Books or Purchase Suggestions?
If you have reserved books or made purchase suggestions, you will be able to collect these from the Library Information Point on Level 3 of the Haldane Building. Please wait until you receive an email from us informing you that your books are ready for collection.
