Studying over the winter break

Like all of the GSA, the Library will be closed 19th December to 2nd January (inclusive). We’ll be open until 5pm on Tuesday the 18th and reopen at 9am on Thursday the 3rd.

If you will be studying while the GSA is closed for the winter break you will want to know that …

  • all digital collections will remain accessible. Search for full text resources using the Discovery tool or browse specific collections such as Flipster for digital magazine and Planet eStream for video content. Don’t forget there are quick video tutorials to help you find and access online journals and eBooks
  • from the 1st December, any printed collections borrowed can be kept until the Library reopens in January. This does not apply to books in the short-loan reading list collection. Check your Library account to find out the exact return dates for your books and to renew them online.
  • if you need a place to study in Glasgow consider your local public library or the University of Glasgow Library. If you are going to be outside Glasgow and want to use the space in a university library near you, phone them and ask if they will accept your GSA matric card or instead need you to have signed up for the SCONUL Access Scheme. If you need to be registered through the SCONUL Access Scheme please apply before the 10th  As an UG you will be given reference only access. Information on all these options is on the Library website.
  • if you are a post-graduate student then, in additional to all of the above, you also have full access to the collections and computing facilities at the University of Glasgow. To gain access to these resources, please follow the instructions in our infographic. Please refer to the University of Glasgow Library’s website for opening hours, location and information before your visit. You can also apply for SCONUL Access with borrowing rights.
